Mac OS X Internet Setup Instructions
- To fully check your Internet settings requires that you check four places. Go to the ‘Apple’ menu, then ‘Control Panels’, then click on ‘Remote Access’ to start. Your screen will have many more options than the ones shown. Proceed to Step 2.

- Check and make sure your username is in correctly, and is typed all-lowercase. Re-type your password to be sure it is correct and also in all-lowercase letters. Double-check the telephone number. If you are unsure if it is correct, you can find a list of our access numbers HERE. Type in the entire number under ‘Telephone number:’, even if you have to use ten-digit dialing.
If you have call waiting, you can disable it by typing “*70,,” (without the quotes) directly in front of the telephone number. Click ‘Options’ to continue.

- You can set ‘Redial’ to any number you like. It doesn’t matter how long you set the ‘Time between retries:’, but it is recommended that you keep it to about 30 seconds or more to ensure your modem and phone line are ready to dial. Click ‘Connection’ to check more settings.

- Set this screen exactly as shown. Make sure that ‘Prompt every 5 minutes’ and ‘Disconnect if idle’ are both unchecked. Click on ‘Protocol’ to proceed.

- Set this screen exactly as shown. Make sure that ‘Connect to a command-line host’ is not chosen. Click ‘OK’ when you are done.

- Return to the main window by closing the ‘Remote Access’ window, then go back to the ‘Apple’ menu, then ‘Control Panels’, and choose ‘Modem’ if you’d like to continue checking settings. There are only a couple of things to check on this window. Make sure the ‘Modem:’ type is correct. For most people, the internal modem will be the correct choice. Make sure that ‘Dialing:’ is set to ‘Tone’. You can turn the ‘Sound:’ of the modem on or off here at your discretion. Make sure that ‘Ignore dial tone’ is not checked. Click in the upper-left hand corner of the screen to close this window and return to your desktop.

- To check further, click on the ‘Apple’ menu, then ‘Control Panels’, then ‘Dialassist’. Simply make sure that the Country is set correctly, and there is nothing in the ‘City/Area Code:’, then click in the upper-left hand corner to close this window and return to the desktop.

- To check your AppleTalk settings, click on the ‘Apple’ menu, then ‘Control Panels’, then click on ‘Appletalk’. It should be set up as shown on the screen below. Click the upper-left hand corner of the screen to return to the desktop.
