Mac OS X Setup

Mac OS X Internet Setup Instructions

  1. Click on the apple symbol at the upper left-hand portion of the screen, then select System Preferences from the drop-menu.
  2. Double click the icon labeled Network inside the System Preferences window.
  3. This will display the current network configuration on this computer. The first tab to be displayed should be the TCP/IP tab. Toward the top you should see Configure: Using PPP. The IP Address, Router Address and Subnet Mask must all be marked as Provided by PPP server. The Domain Name Servers should be entered exactly as follows:

    • 72.21.65.13
    • 72.21.65.14

Leave Search Domain Blank. Click once on the PPP tab once you’re done here.

  4. The first item under PPP properties is the Service Provider name. It really doesn’t matter what you have here. TCT West is just one example. Be sure to enter the correct local access number for your area. You’ll find a complete list of regional access numbers HERE. Your username and password should also be filled in here, and both of which should be all lowercase letters with no spaces. Click on the PPP Options button toward the bottom once you’re finished here.
  5. You may choose either to enable or disable any of the options listed here based on your own personal preferences. The settings in the figure below seem to be the most popular. Click OK once you are done here to go back to the network configuration screen, then click once on the Modem tab up top.
  6. The modem configuration is pretty basic. Wait for dial tone before dialing should be enabled. Your sound should be on, and the dial setting should be set to Tone.
  7. Click Save once you’re satisfied with the current network configuration settings. Your computer is now ready to connect. When you launch any PPP application, such as Internet Explorer, the dialup connection should come up automatically.
