Program: Turning Twenty demo

Minutes from last meeting:

The April 25, 2009 meeting was held at the Cody Senior Center with 14 ladies in attendance.  Jeanne Knudsen led the meeting as president Evelyn Browning was out of town.  She has the entry forms if anyone wants to enter a quilt in the Lovell quilt show the last weekend in June.  Treasurer, Sandy Cutter, is still taking money for the opportunity raffle quilt; all money & tickets must be turned in at the June meeting.  Correction to last month's minutes:  YQF - Kathy Lichtendahl reported that PPQG received a grant for $250 towards hiring a national teacher.  A card shower was given to Dot Boyle who is moving to Iowa; cake & punch were served.  As usual, many beautiful quilts were shown during Show & Tell.  The meeting ended with Jeanne Knudsen's program on Continuous Prairie Points.  She demonstrated how to make them & passed out directions.

Raffle news:  To date I have deposited $236.85 into the raffle account.  Our expenses were $163.30.  This leaves a profit of $100.55.  PLEASE try to sell more tickets before the July 4th drawing and mail to me at 21 Murray Lane, Cody.

The Andi Parajda Class will be held in the fall at YQF.  PPQG will keep some of the money (profit) to be split with YQF .

Yellowstone Quilt Fest Classes

  1. There will actually be three great classes offered during the week of Yellowstone Quilt Fest in September.

    1. The first, by award winning quilter Andi Perejda, is called Dazzling Dogwoods and is being presented by PPQG at Friends and Company on Thursday, September 10. Please note this is not a beginner class. It is labeled intermediate/advanced and will provide a wonderful opportunity to learn techniques for taking your quilts to their next level. In addition to teaching, Andi has exhibited quilts all over the world and is an NQA Certified Judge. You can find out more about her by going to www.andiperejda.com. To see a picture of the class being offered or to download the supply list, go to www.andiperejda.com/dogwoods.htm

    2. On Friday, September 11, Linda MacDonald and Jane Neale will be teaching participants how to make a Textured Tote. Many of you have seen and admired this bag, designed by Linda and containing all sorts of textured tricks that could easily be carried over to your quilts or clothing. This class will be taught in the Club Room at the Cody Auditorium.

    3.  On Saturday, September 12, Alice Jagiello will lead a class in the Club Room of the Auditorium titled Totally Triangular. Participants in this class will have an opportunity to use some of their favorite fabrics in a small bed quilt.

We expect the spaces in these classes to fill up fast. To register just go to www.yellowstonequiltfest.info and follow the path to class registration. Print out the forms, fill them in and send them along with your registration money to Kathy Lichtendahl or Jeanne Knudsen.

BLOCK CHALLENGE FOR Yellowstone Quilt Fest

"Home on the Range" is the theme for this year's Block Challenge.  Submit your 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 inch unfinished block to Jeanne Knudsen, by September 8th.  Great prizes are offered.

Additional Snipits

2009 Quilt Challenge is "Memory Lane"

It is due at the March 2010 meeting, so you have plenty of time to plan.  With the March deadline, these will be ready in time to show at the Cody Country Art League Quilt Show in April.

The Challenge Committee wants unique quilts for this challenge.

No look-a-likes here.  You choose your favorite colors.  You choose what size quilt you want, from wall hanging to king-size.

This quilt will be uniquely yours because it is about you. As you go down "Memory Lane" with your quilt, we all will share the ride and get to know you better.  Show and tell will be lots of fun with this one.

Below are suggestions only.  You are in the driver's seat. So use this as a guide to jog those memories, and start sewing. Use traditional blocks, piecing, appliqué, painting, whole cloth or collage, etc. Printed novelty fabrics will work well here too.  This could be done as a block-a-month, if those deadlines tend to sneak up on you.

1. A Star is Born (that's you)

2. When I was young ...

3. My Pets

4. My First ... (kiss, car, job, child)

5. I Lived ... (where, how, for)

6. Best Vacation Ever

7. If I Could Be Anything, I would Be ... (a do-over opportunity)

8. Moving and Grooving (music, dance, U-Haul)

9. My Favorite Things ... (family, chocolate, sewing, garden, etc)

10. The Golden Years (if you are not there yet, make a plan)

Need help with ideas?  There is a "Memory Lane" traditional block of the month at: http://www.knoblin.com/bom2009-intro.shtml

There is also a great pattern called "All About Me" by Atkinson Designs: atkinsondesigns.com, which uses novelty fabrics.
