Real Ranch Experience

"Come spend your summer break, a semester, or an entire year gaining working knowledge of large-scale animal production. Enjoy hard work while meeting new people, getting dirty, working hands-on with cattle and horses, and so much more."

Real

Your day begins and ends in field. Thorough irrigation of our pastures will be your primary concern and represent a large portion of your day. In addition, you will spend time with your own herd of cows checking health and moving them to fresh pasture. Learning the basics for monitoring plant health and the ecology of rangeland will become important parts of your day-to-day schedule. The time you spend and the knowledge you gain will help us make decisions concerning grazing and irrigation schedules.

Hands-On

Your day may be spent building and repairing fence or moving cows on our BLM and Forest Services leases. You will play an integral part in the operations necessary for hay production. Each day is different and will offer multiple learning experiences that will challenge both your mind and your body.

Practical

Test theory against reality. Apply your classroom knowledge to see how it works in real world situations. Learn to set goals and work as part of a diverse team. Time management and planning are skills that you will be well acquainted with by the end of your stay.

Atmosphere

You will be living in Hyattville, a small town with a population around 100. This community is made up of people who live and work on nearby ranches. Most of the ranches, including Paint Rock Canyon, have been in operation for over 100 years, and have been handed down from generation to generation. This family atmosphere creates the basis for a friendly, hard working community. On the ranch you will be living and working with a variety of people from around the country. Our ranch is situated in one of the most beautiful areas of Wyoming, well off the beaten path. This unique location offers numerous opportunities to explore the surrounding environment. Nearby you will find ancient petroglyph sites, excellent fishing, and numerous hiking trails. A short drive offers access to Yellowstone and Teton National Parks, as well as historic Cody and the Buffalo Bill Museum.

Benefits

In addition to an excellent learning opportunity, you will also be provided with housing and a generous stipend.
